Introduction
Regular physical activity is one of the most effective ways people of all ages can support their health. It plays a critical role in healthy aging, helps prevent and manage chronic disease, and reduces the risk of premature death. Despite these benefits, according to the CDC only about one in four adults and one in six high school students meet the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans. Safe, activity-friendly routes can provide communities with welcoming, and convenient spaces for people to walk, roll, bike, and play while accessing local destinations like schools, parks and businesses.
This funding opportunity will support communities acting on local-, regional-, or state-level plans for improving access to safe, activity-friendly routes to everyday destinations. Applicants are required to demonstrate how their initiatives will make a measurable impact on increasing access to safe, activity-friendly routes to everyday destinations within their jurisdictions.

- Safety action plans
- Comprehensive plans

- Parks and Recreation plans
- Trail plans

- Community Health Improvement Plans (CHIPs)
- Other relevant plans that cover the applicant’s jurisdiction and have direct influence on availability of active routes and/or destinations
