The G-SPAN Breastfeeding Collaborative Action Team (CAT) is supporting policy, systems, environmental, and communications strategies to improve breastfeeding support, initiation, and duration among Georgians.
Who We Work With
The Georgia Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics is the coordinating partner on the G-SPAN breastfeeding initiatives. The Georgia Department of Public Health Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) also helps guide the breastfeeding priorities.
More than 20 partners consistently participate in the Breastfeeding Collaborative Action Team (CAT) bimonthly meetings including: lactation consultants, doula consultants, and birthing professionals; district and state public health WIC, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Georgia Breastfeeding Coalition, Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies Coalition of Georgia, Loyal Lactation, Grady Health System, Wellstar Health System, Kaiser Permanente, Quality Care for Children, Reaching Our Sisters Everywhere (ROSE), Sista Girl Birth Initiative, Morehouse School of Medicine, American Heart Association, and others.
How We Evaluate Progress
As part of G-SPAN’s community-centered evaluation approach, we will be tracking our success and challenges along the way to key milestones and performance measures, including:
Populations reached and settings impacted through G-SPAN breastfeeding policy, system and environmental change strategies.
Development and implementation of respective breastfeeding social marketing campaign targeting healthcare professionals, worksites/employers, and lactating people/personal support systems.
Development and dissemination of lactation risk assessment tool for healthcare professional use.
Design and dissemination of Georgia Regional Coalition Breastfeeding Toolkit.
Number of new regional breastfeeding coalitions established in Georgia.
